Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., commended ABC for canceling “Roseanne” after the show’s star, Roseanne Barr, made a racist comment about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett on Twitter.
“Thank you, @ABCNetwork. You did the right thing. There is not any room in our society for racism or bigotry,” Lewis tweeted.

ABC Entertainment announced Tuesday it had canceled the reboot of “Roseanne” just hours after Barr tweeted “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” a reference to Jarrett.
Barr later apologized for the comment, saying it was a “bad joke” that was in “bad taste.”
But ABC said the comedian’s statement was “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent” with its values, and decided to cancel her show.
