Zoo to show documentary on famous landscape architect

The National Zoo on Thursday evening will hold a free screening of a new documentary on the life of noted landscape artist Frederick Law Olmsted. “The Olmsted Legacy” documents the formation of America’s city parks and the work of Olmsted, who designed thousands of landscapes, including Central Park in New York, the U.S. Capitol Grounds, the grounds of the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina and the grounds of the Columbian Exposition, the formal name of the 1890 Chicago World’s Fair. The screening will be held at the zoo’s visitor center auditorium at 6:30 p.m., with a panel discussion about Olmsted’s legacy and the value of urban parks afterward.
