Barry’s car gets the boot

Not to be left out of the scandals that popped up last week, the scandal king himself Marion Barry had his car booted after letting six D.C. parking tickets go past due.

TBD has a rundown of those six tickets and three others that aren’t past due yet (It looks like the Ward 8 Councilman parks where he pleases, in front of fire hydrants, in bus zones and in no parking areas). To get the boot off, Barry has to pay $520 of the $705 he owed, plus the fee to get the boot off.

He told TBD that it’s “no big thing” and he’ll pay “whatever” is owed.

All of this on the same day that D.C. Chief Financial Office Natwar Gandhi made the point that the District is collecting less money from parking tickets than expected because people aren’t paying up.

That has been going on for years, though. Earlier this year, The Washington Examiner reported that the city was owed $300 million on unpaid parking tickets.
