Clinton: The ‘Trump doctrine is chaos’

Shortly before delivering a major national security speech in California, Hillary Clinton released a video criticizing Donald Trump’s approach to foreign policy.

“The Trump doctrine is chaos,” the video reads, interspersed with clips of Trump talking about his foreign policy plans. “He’s not worried about nuclear proliferation … He’s alienating our allies. And cozying up to dictators … His policies are dangerous.”

The video may foreshadow the points Clinton will raise against Trump in her much-anticipated national security speech this afternoon, in which she will portray the presumptive Republican nominee as a dangerous force. The footage highlights Trump’s comments that he’d like Saudi Arabia and Japan have access to nuclear weapons and praising Vladimir Putin, as well as comments from foreign leaders calling Trump “divisive” and “stupid.”

Thursday’s speech will be Clinton’s first national security speech since Trump secured a majority of delegates necessary for the nomination, and Clinton senior policy adviser Jake Sullivan said that Clinton will emphasize “how high the stakes are” in this election and “speak extensively” about why Trump is unfit to be commander-in-chief.

The former secretary of state is set to highlight her foreign policy and national security knowledge, playing up the importance of having an experienced commander in chief. The former secretary of state will also work to appeal to appeal to Republican and independent voters who do not trust Trump on foreign policy.
