Former Vice President Mike Pence expressed “deep concern” over the FBI’s raid on former President Donald Trump‘s residence at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
The former Trump running mate tweeted his criticism of the FBI’s actions on Tuesday, the morning after the bureau conducted its raid — reportedly in search of presidential records, including classified documents.
TRUMP SAYS FBI ‘RAIDED’ MAR-A-LAGO
“I share the deep concern of millions of Americans over the unprecedented search of the personal residence of President Trump. No former President of the United States has ever been subject to a raid of their personal residence in American history,” Pence said in a tweet.

Yesterday’s action undermines public confidence in our system of justice and Attorney General Garland must give a full accounting to the American people as to why this action was taken and he must do so immediately.

Pence condemned partisanship within the Justice Department and called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to explain why the search on Mar-a-Lago was conducted.
“After years where FBI agents were found to be acting on political motivation during our administration, the appearance of continued partisanship by the Justice Department must be addressed,” Pence tweeted. “Yesterday’s action undermines public confidence in our system of justice and Attorney General Garland must give a full accounting to the American people as to why this action was taken and he must do so immediately.”
Pence’s relationship with Trump has been strained since Pence refused to prevent the certification of the 2020 election on the day of the Jan. 6 riot, which aimed to block Congress from certifying the results.

Since leaving office in January 2021, Pence and Trump have endorsed different candidates in some key Republican primaries, demonstrating the fracturing within the GOP. In the Arizona gubernatorial primary last week, Trump-backed Kari Lake defeated Pence-back Karrin Taylor Robson, though the former vice president’s pick, Gov. Brian Kemp, defeated Trump-endorsed former Sen. David Perdue in the GOP primary election for governor of Georgia.
Both Pence and Trump are seen as likely Republican presidential candidates for 2024, but neither has announced a run.
