‘Stunned’ Clinton calls Prince ‘an American original’

Hillary Clinton said she was “stunned” by death of Prince as she reflected on the pop star’s life after a campaign event in Connecticut on Thursday.

“I came out of an event in Hartford, Conn., and people told me, and I was so stunned,” Clinton said during an interview with Philadelphia radio station WDAS-FM on Thursday.

“You think of him as being almost eternal,” Clinton added. “I mean he was a bigger-than-life personality; he was not only a songwriter and a singer but literally a one-man band. He was such a great showman. I just was so, so sad. And I just want everybody to spend some time reflecting on this American original. He was so extraordinary.”

The former secretary of state was not the only Democrat to comment on Prince’s death as President Obama released a statement mourning the singer, stating that he was a “creative icon.” Clinton’s daughter Chelsea also mourned Prince’s death in a tweet that same day.
