A police officer shot a man in the neck Tuesday night in East Baltimore after the suspect dragged the officer alongside an SUV.
At 7:28 p.m., two officers were working in plain-clothes in a marked patrol vehicle with badges showing, said Baltimore police spokesman Officer Troy Harris.
The officers heard a call for a stolen sports utility vehicle, which they located and followed to the 5500 block of Woodmont Avenue, where they stopped the vehicle by turning on their lights and sirens, Harris said.
One of the officers approached the driver?s side and engaged the suspect in a brief conversation, during which the man attempted to drive off, police said.
The officer?s arm became caught in the steering wheel, dragging the officer alongside, Harris said.
The officer fired his gun striking the suspect once in the neck, according to police. The SUV then crashed into a parked car.
The suspect has been transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital and the officer to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Police did not identify either man.
The incident is the 27th police-involved shooting this year.
