Schumer ‘absolutely’ working not to fill vacant Supreme Court seat

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he would “absolutely” do his best to keep President-elect Trump from filling the vacant Supreme Court seat.

“It’s hard for me to imagine a nominee that Donald Trump would choose that would get Republican support that we could support,” Schumer told MSNBC Tuesday.

When MSNBC anchor then pressed the New York senator on whether he would work to keep the vacant court seat open, Schumer responded, “Absolutely.”

Last June, Schumer blasted Senate Republicans for choosing to not to undertake confirmation hearings for President Obama’s high court nominee, Merrick Garland.

“As long as they continue to hold that Supreme Court seat vacant so that Donald Trump can fill it, Senate Republicans are tied at the hip to Donald Trump and are not doing their job,” Schumer said in June.
