Kevin O’Leary, an entrepreneur and host on ABC’s Shark Tank, was involved in a boating accident in Canada that left two people dead and others injured.
The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Lake Joseph in Ontario. One of the boats involved was owned by O’Leary, 65, although his wife, Linda O’Leary, was driving at the time, according to NBC News. O’Leary’s boat reportedly rammed into another larger boat, causing it to go over the bow and strike Gary Poltash, 64, who died instantly.
Another woman on board the larger boat, Susanne Brito, 48, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries Wednesday. Three others were hospitalized and released.
O’Leary said in a statement that he was “devastated” by the crash.
“On late Saturday night, I was a passenger in a boat that was involved in a tragic collision with another watercraft that had no navigation lights on and then fled the scene,” O’Leary said. “Out of respect for the victims’ families and to fully support the ongoing investigation I feel it is inappropriate to make further comments at this time.”
The entrepreneur’s spokesperson said that following the accident Linda O’Leary passed a DUI test, although the exact circumstances of the crash are yet to be released by authorities.
