No suspects, murder weapon in 1994 Arlington slaying

Arlington police are still looking for a killer who struck in 1994. Arnett Bartlett was a driver for a company that delivered food from various restaurants. He lived alone in an apartment at 5565 Columbia Pike, Arlington, near the Fairfax end of the county.

When neighbors began to complain to the building’s management about a smell on their floor, they investigated his apartment and found him dead. He was 38. Authorities determined he had been stabbed to death.

He had last been seen on July 13, 1994, five days before his body was found.

There were no signs of forced entry into the apartment, so police believe he could have been killed by someone he knew and trusted. But Arlington police detective Kevin Norwood said they cannot limit the suspects to his acquaintances, since a door-to-door salesman or another person with access to his apartment also could have killed him.

“We don’t rule anybody out,” Norwood said.

They never found the weapon, or any information about who the killer could have been.

Bartlett is survived by one sister.
