Colin Kaepernick invited to White House summit on race, Trump adviser says

An adviser to President Trump says former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been invited to the White House for a summit on race.

Cleveland-based pastor Darrell Scott told People magazine that rapper Kanye West and Kaepernick, who has been attacked by Trump for kneeling during the pre-game national anthem to protest police shootings of unarmed black men, have been invited as well as other athletes and musicians of different races and ethnicities.

Scott expects Trump will attend the summits; there will likely be one for artists and another for athletes.

“We don’t want to sanitize it. I want people from the left to attend. I want it to get heated but I want it to be respectful,” Scott said. “I want them to see and know the Donald Trump I know and they will say, ‘This guy isn’t who I’ve been led to believe he is.’”

It’s unclear if anyone has accepted the White House invite, but Scott said Trump “is 100 percent for it.”
