Newly revealed details about CNN’s president having an undisclosed relationship with a fellow executive have led him to resign.
CNN President Jeff Zucker announced that he was resigning from his position due to revealed details about a “consensual relationship.” The resignation occurs months after Zucker oversaw the removal of former CNN host Chris Cuomo over his misuse of his position to protect his brother.
“I acknowledged the relationship evolved in recent years. I was required to disclose it when it began but I didn’t,” Zucker said in an email to CNN employees on Wednesday. “I was wrong. As a result, I am resigning today.”
Zucker did not name the colleague in the email. The relationship was confirmed to be with Chief Marketing Officer Allison Gollust, according to CNN’s Brian Stelter.

WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar confirmed in an email to CNN employees that he had accepted Zucker’s resignation. Kilar said he would announce an interim leadership plan soon.
Zucker oversaw the removal of Cuomo from his prime-time slot in November after an outside law firm revealed additional information about Cuomo’s involvement with his brother Andrew during the former New York governor’s sexual harassment scandal. Chris alleged that Zucker was aware of his conduct prior to the investigation and had not acted.
Gollust had previously served as an adviser and communications director for Andrew Cuomo for four months before resigning in 2013. The marketing executive was accused in August of helping protect Chris Cuomo from being removed from his position over his illicit actions helping protect his brother from additional sexual abuse allegations.
Zucker’s resignation drew an assortment of strong responses on social media.

“Jeff Zucker, a world-class sleazebag who has headed ratings and real-news-challenged CNN for far too long, has been terminated for numerous reasons, but predominantly because CNN has lost its way with viewers and everybody else,” former President Donald Trump wrote.
Trump praised the resignation and declared it a “chance to put Fake News in the backseat.”
