The Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department announced the two U.S. Capitol Police officers rammed by a driver on Friday were “intentionally struck.”
Suspect Noah Green, 25, was shot and killed by police after striking the officers with his vehicle, ramming into a barricade, and running out of his car with a large knife, MPD wrote in a release. Authorities are investigating the incident as a homicide, for which a motive has not been released.
“The suspect’s knife was recovered on the scene,” police wrote, releasing a photo of the weapon held by Green.

Green was transferred to a local medical facility along with the two officers. Officer William Evans, 41, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, and Green was declared dead after being taken into custody.

On Saturday, the other officer, Ken Shaver, was discharged from a Washington medical facility and left in a wheelchair. He was greeted by cheers and praise from family and friends outside the building.
Details from Green’s apparent Facebook account, which has since been taken down, indicated he had recently lost his job and seemed to be a follower of the Nation of Islam, a black nationalist group led by Louis Farrakhan.
“This incident remains under investigation by the United States Capitol Police, the Metropolitan Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Washington Field Office,” the MPD stated Monday, asking anyone with information about the case to call the police.

The attack, which prompted a lockdown on Capitol Hill, occurred nearly three months after the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the same site that left five dead and wounded nearly 140 officers.
