Study: New Jersey is the least patriotic state

A survey of all 50 states shows that New Jersey is the least patriotic one, based on low levels of civic engagement and military service.

New Jersey ranked 48th in “military engagement” and 45th in “civic engagement” according to the survey by WalletHub.

The survey used 13 key indicators of patriotism, including military enlistees and veterans per capita, share of adults who voted in 2016, volunteer hours per resident, and share of residents who were part of civic groups.

Military engagement carried 25% of the weight of the survey while civic engagement was 75%.

The survey also found New York and California were both the second- and third-least patriotic states.

New Hampshire was the most patriotic state with a score of 63.08, almost three times higher than New Jersey’s score of 21.55.
