Rudy Giuliani says his mission is ‘to disrupt the world’

Rudy Giuliani, whose ventures in Ukraine have created a political firestorm for President Trump, said his mission is “to disrupt the world.”

The declaration came Friday during a Fox News interview in which the former New York City mayor argued that his work to convince Ukraine to take up investigations into Trump’s political rivals is about corruption and not the 2020 election.

Giuliani has become a cable news staple in recent weeks, sometimes resulting in intense shouting matches his interviewers, defending his work as House Democrats engage in an impeachment inquiry spurred by a phone call Trump had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in which he urged the Ukrainian leader to cooperate with Giuliani.

Anchor Martha MacCallum asked him what, as Trump’s personal attorney, is his mission.

“To disrupt the world. My mission is to defend my client in the best traditions of the legal profession,” he replied.

Giuliani rejected what he called a “mischaracterization” that his focus is on Biden and his son Hunter, who was on the board of a Ukrainian gas company while his father was vice president. Giuliani claimed he began to look into Ukraine while representing Trump during special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation and that 2020 was not on his mind.

“It’s in the best interest of my client to unravel the corruption in the Ukraine, which will involve mostly collusion in the election, into which Joe Biden inserted himself,” he said.

Giuliani has been subpoenaed by House Democrats for documents related to an intelligence official’s whistleblower complaint against Trump regarding his behavior related to Ukraine.

He responded on Twitter, “I have received a subpoena signed only by Democrat Chairs who have prejudged this case. It raises significant issues concerning legitimacy and constitutional and legal issues including, inter alia, attorney client and other privileges. It will be given appropriate consideration.”

Giuliani has also floated the idea of legal action against individual House Democrats involved in the impeachment inquiry.
