A violent video of a shirtless man going on a rampage in downtown Denver, attacking pedestrians with a long pipe, has prompted the city’s mayor to blame the legalization of marijuana.

The attack took place around the McDonald’s by Denver’s 16th Street pedestrian mall, which runs centrally downtown and attracts tourists. The incident was captured on video and posted on Facebook by Caleb Bonham.

“This is the crap that is going on in downtown Denver, Colorado,” Bonham wrote. “The 16th Street Mall is unpatrolled and people are getting hurt. This is why I am posting this. Nothing is being done. The leaders in our city keep saying they are going to do something. When?”

As of this writing his original video post has been viewed nearly 3 million times.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock responded to the incident by blaming the legalization of medical marijauna for an increase in “urban travelers” into Denver.

“This is one of the results of the legalization of marijuana in Denver, and we’re going to have to deal with it,” Hancock said, according to the Denver Post.
