Families host small St. Patrick’s Day parades after Ireland cancels national festivities

After Ireland canceled many national St. Patrick’s Day festivities amid the coronavirus pandemic, families began hosting small “parades” to resume traditions.

The O’Halloran clan in County Clare, Ireland, hosted small dances and parades in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, consistent with health advisements that caution people to avoid large gatherings as the COVID-19 virus spreads. The clan, as well as other Irish residents, are seen marching to the holiday’s themes.

In one clip, children can be seen marching and tap dancing, while later, another group shout cheery sentiments to others celebrating with a camera.

“Happy St. Patrick’s to all! Happy St. Patrick’s Day to us all!” the children are heard yelling in their small parade.

COVID-19 cases have appeared on every continent except Antarctica. Nearly 196,000 people have tested positive for the virus around the world, with more than 80,000 recovering and 7,800 dying. In the United States, there are more than 5,800 confirmed cases of the virus, which has killed approximately 100 people. Approximately 17 people have recovered.
