Trump Organization doubles price to join Mar-a-Lago

As its former owner begins his presidency, Mar-a-Lago is doubling its initiation fee to $200,000, according to a report.

President Trump’s company has owned the Florida club for years and CNBC reported Wednesday the fee had been increased earlier this month. According to the report, the jump in initiation fee came on Jan. 1.

The organization didn’t confirm the news immediately on Wednesday.

Trump plans to make Mar-a-Lago the “winter White House” where he spends much of his time around the holidays. CNBC reported criticism is likely to come that the Trump family is selling access to the new president by increasing the fee.

The report stated the fee to join Mar-a-Lago had been $100,000 since 2012 when it was cut in half. Members pay $14,000 annually in order to be a member.

Trump has resigned as CEO of the Trump organization and his adult sons and an organization executive are now running the company. The company has also announced plans to expand into new markets in the United States with its hotel operations.

Trump resigned his roles in the Trump Organization on Jan. 19, meaning he was still in charge of the company when the switch took place on Jan. 1
