Paul Ryan defends Trump against anonymous op-ed writer

House Speaker Paul Ryan defended the Trump presidency Thursday after reporters asked him to respond to an anonymous New York Times op-ed authored by a senior administration official who trashed the president.

Ryan said the author of the piece of was “living in dishonesty,” and said the person should quit if he or she was not “interested in helping the president.”

The op-ed described a layer of Trump administration officials working to thwart the president and his agenda. But Ryan said the agenda has been successful and that the complaints about Trump related to his offhand remarks and Twitter account.

“I know the president is very unconventional, and I know his tweeting and unconventional tactics bother people, but the results of government are good results,” Ryan said.

Ryan opened the press conference with new numbers showing historically low unemployment figures. He also pointed to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who he said is “another great judge” poised to be confirmed later this month.

“What I concern myself with are the results of government and the results of government are good results,” Ryan said.
