Fire stations in Anne Arundel will be collecting gently used clothing for the Coats for Kids Campaign through Oct. 14.
Residents are encouraged to donate clean winter coats, mittens, scarves and hats, which will be distributed to children in need through a partnership between the County Fire Department and Anne Arundel’s Social Services Department, according to a news release.
The goal is to collect at least 400 coats.
“Many times children outgrow their winter coats before the coat is worn,” Fire Chief David Stokes said in a statement.
“My hope is that parents will consider donating the coats rather than allowing them to simply take up space in an attic or closet.”
The clothing will be distributed Oct. 20
