A man became trapped after falling 25 feet into a trench containing 3 feet of water at Baltimore County’s Back River Waste Water Treatment Plant Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.
The 48-year-old man, whose name was not released, was repairing a pipe at the construction site at Chesaco and Severn avenues when he fell just before 1 p.m., officials said.
Crewmates kept the man’s head above water until fire officials used an on-site crane to lift him from the trench in a basket.
The man, who remained conscious during the rescue, was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma with serious injuries, fire officials said.
