‘I thought I dropped acid’: GOP senator describes ‘surreal’ reading of FISA report

Republican Sen. John Kennedy described in colorful terms his attempt to read through Justice Department watchdog’s report assessing the Trump-Russia investigation, saying it made him feel like he “dropped acid.”

“Currently, we’ve got some bad apples,” Kennedy said Wednesday during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the report.

“I haven’t read the entire report. I’m about 70% of the way through, but I’m going to finish it. It’s tedious,” he said. “After about 15% of the way through, it made me want to heave. After about 25% of the way through, I thought I dropped acid. It’s surreal,” the Louisiana Republican said.

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz released a nearly 500-page report on Monday on his investigation into alleged surveillance abuses against the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.

The inspector general found “significant inaccuracies and omissions” in the FBI’s applications to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to monitor former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. The inspector general also did not establish that political bias drove the investigation, but some questions remain about certain individuals.
