A 2009 campaign ad for Chris Christie’s gubernatorial campaign included praise for President Obama.
“It’s a change the President Obama stands firmly behind. I couldn’t agree more,” Christie says of President Obama’s outlook on renewable energy.
“There’s no doubt that renewable energy is our future here in New Jersey, and there is really no better time for us to begin the discussion about not only how it will lead us to energy independence, but also how it will help create more good-paying, middle-class jobs for New Jersey. It’s a change the President Obama stands firmly behind. I couldn’t agree more. Most of the panels for solar energy, and the turbines for wind energy, are being manufactured in countries like Germany and Japan, Denmark and Spain. Not only are they way ahead of the United States in creating renewable energy, they’re way ahead of us in creating the jobs that will go along with renewable energy.”
While Christie’s stance on energy hasn’t changed, his 2009 embrace of President Obama’s energy stance brings to mind his 2012 embrace of Obama himself, which is a sore spot for some voters who were outraged by the hug.
