Documents reveal Russian lawyer in Trump Tower meeting has close Kremlin ties: Report

Documents reveal a well-connected lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr. and Trump campaign officials at Trump Tower in the run-up to the 2016 election has worked closely with Russian government officials, according to a new report.

The Associated Press reviewed records that show Natalia Veselnitskaya served as a ghostwriter for Russian government lawyers and received assistance from senior Interior Ministry personnel.

Veselnitskaya had initially said she had no ties to the Kremlin, but told NBC News in April that she had been actively communicating with the Russian prosecutor general since 2013 after a previous set of emails came to light.

She is said to have promised President Trump’s 2016 campaign dirt on his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, ahead of the meeting, though Trump Jr. has said nothing of that nature was produced and that the meeting quickly turned to adoptions of children from Russia.

The AP reported the new data came from a London-based organization started by an exiled Russian opposition figure.

Veselnitskaya was not able to be reached for comment, the report states.
