A corrections officer with the Prince William County Adult Detention Center was arrested late last week for improper conduct with an inmate.
Maria C. Torres-Corbin, 48, of Fredericksburg, Va., was charged with carnal knowledge of an inmate for multiple incidents occurring at the inmate’s Manassas home, the Prince William County Police Department said in a news release. The inmate had been released from the jail under electric monitoring surveillance. The investigation is continuing, police spokeswoman Officer Erika Hernandez said.
For safety and security reasons, the corrections officer is being held at another detention facility as she awaits an Oct. 4 court date, the statement said. She is being held without bond and faces a class 6 felony charge, punishable by up to five years in jail and/or a $2,500 fine.
The investigation started at the jail and was forwarded to the police department for action Thursday, Hernandez said.
“Our department was contacted by the jail personnel, and that’s when the investigation began,” Hernandez said.
