John Brennan: Trump withdrawing from the Iran deal is ‘madness’

Former CIA Director John Brennan skewered President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal Tuesday, lambasting the move as “madness.”

Brennan, who served in the Obama administration, criticized Trump for announcing he would walk away from his predecessor’s landmark foreign policy agreement, arguing doing so weakens the United States’ position on the world stage.

“Today, Donald Trump simultaneously lied about the Iranian nuclear deal, undermined global confidence in US commitments, alienated our closest allies, strengthened Iranian hawks, & gave North Korea more reason to keep its nukes,” Brennan tweeted.

He called the move “madness” and a “danger to our national security.”

On Tuesday, Trump pulled the U.S. out of the accord drawn up in an effort to curb Iran’s weapons program, fulfilling one of his major campaign promises. He vowed to replace the deal with the “highest level” sanctions.
