Vice President Joe Biden wanted Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren to be his running mate if he decided to run for president, according to a new report.
Biden said earlier this week he had planned on running and still thinks “I would have been the best president.”
Now, Politico reported, he thinks Warren would be an excellent choice for the Democratic ticket and would have run with her if he had jumped into the race.
A leading Democratic official told Politico that Biden sought Warren as his running mate during his earliest strategy sessions. Former Delaware Sen. Ted Kaufman, a Biden adviser who participated in the meetings, told the publication that Warren was someone who “was discussed” when Biden was deciding whether to run.
“Elizabeth Warren is really a great leader, and someone who is dynamic and articulate,” Kaufman said, according to the report. “If you listen to what she says, it’s on point, it’s factual, it’s thoughtful. I think she would add a lot to Hillary’s ticket, to every ticket. The most important thing is governing. Warren is someone you’d like to have by your side when you’re making these tough decisions.”
Both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have highly praised Warren in the past, but it remains to be seen whether either would choose her themselves.
