A proposal to allow liquor stores to deliver beer, wine and alcohol to Prince George’s County homes is drawing criticism from members of the County Council.
The county Liquor Control Board may adopt the rule, which allows liquor stores to provide a delivery service, similar to a pizza shop’s deliveries to its customers.
Councilwoman Mary Lehman, D-Laurel, whose district includes the University of Maryland in College Park, said she is concerned about misuse of the delivery service by young people under the legal drinking age.
“I know nothing about this class of license or mechanism to allow delivery of alcohol, but I am strongly opposed to it,” Lehman said in an e-mail. “The potential for abuse is too great, especially by minors. I am disturbed that it is even being considered.”
Councilman Will Campos, D-Hyattsville, said that he didn’t think an alcohol delivery service was a necessity.
