Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich went out on a limb to predict “somebody” will be arrested and “probably” sent to jail for an unspecified crime related to the FBI’s investigation into President Trump’s campaign and Russian interference in the 2016 election.
“They’re going to get somebody. I don’t think they’re going to get the president, but they’re going to get somebody, and they’re going to get him for something. And they’re probably going to go to jail,” Gingrich told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Friday evening.
Gingrich, who was once a top choice for Trump’s running mate, said there are too many “high-powered” lawyers working in the special counsel’s investigation “to go home without a scalp.”
“This is like watching an old-fashioned Western movie. This is an Indian hunting party. They’re out looking for a couple scouts, and they’re not going to go home until they get some,” Gingrich exclaimed.
For nearly a year, the FBI has been investigating Russia’s interference in the U.S. presidential election. That probe expanded to include whether Trump obstructed justice by firing former FBI Director James Comey and urging Comey not to continue looking into former national security adviser Mike Flynn, according to a report by The Washington Post this week.
