James Corden went after fellow late night host Bill Maher over jokes he has made about fat people.
“We’re not all as lucky as Bill Maher,” Corden, who describes himself as “overweight,” said Thursday on The Late Late Show. “We don’t all have a sense of superiority that burns 35,000 calories a day.”
“There’s a common and insulting misconception that fat people are stupid and lazy, and we’re not. We get it. We know. We know that being overweight isn’t good for us, and I’ve struggled my entire life trying to manage my weight, and I suck at it,” Corden said, adding that fat shaming equals “bullying” and does not help the problem.
Maher, 63, brought up the issue of fat shaming on his last Friday episode, saying it needs to make a comeback.
“Being fat is not a birth defect,” Maher said on his HBO show. “Nobody comes out of the womb needing to buy two seats on the airplane.”
He continued, “We’ve gone to this weird place where fat is good. Fat shaming does not need to end. It needs to make a comeback.”
Maher most recently faced backlash last month when he praised the death of billionaire philanthropist David Koch.
