A group of students in Newport Beach, Calif., has received permission to wear their “Dump Trump” shirts on campus.
Sisters Angelina and Alexcia Alvarez said they were harassed by pro-Trump teens on campus at their Newport Harbor High School, and then was asked by the principal to take them off for their own safety.

On Friday, they said they planned to wear their shirts with the support of the school administration.
For the sisters, it was about fairness and free speech, since other students in pro-Trump shirts were never told to take them off.
“I feel like they’re saying that we can wear the shirt makes me feel equal with them now. That I have the same privileges as they do. I didn’t feel that before,” Angelina Alvarez said.
Newport-Mesa Unified School District said the issue was about the safety of the students.
“Regardless of what side you’re on, we do allow students to wear their political attire as long as safety and security of our students is not compromised and that we maintain focus on learning,” Annette Franco, a district spokesperson, said.
Now, the Alvarez sisters will join eight other students in wearing the shirts.
“Other kids seeing us wear the shirts, that they feel like they can stand up, too,” Alexcia Alvarez said. “That’s like a time for us all to unite.”
