On Facebook, Md. man mistaken for officer who shot dog

Hundreds of Facebook users have confused an Odenton man with a D.C. police officer of the same name who fatally shot a dog at the Adams Morgan festival, the Annapolis Capital reports.

Scott Alan Fike told the newspaper that he has received more than 400 threatening messages calling him a “dog killer” after Officer Scott Fike shot and killed the dog amid a crowd of festival-goers on Sept. 12.

The Odenton resident said he loves dogs, but his Facebook profile photo — which showed him in hunting gear — probably added to the confusion.

“I’ve had dogs my whole life,” he told the newspaper. “I do everything I can to help dogs.”
