Jim Jordan commends AG Barr, says investigation into origin of Mueller probe will continue

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said Attorney General William Barr has done a good job overseeing the release and dissemination of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report of his investigation into President Trump.

Appearing beside fellow Republican Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina on Fox News Thursday, Jordan commended Barr and said he, Meadows, and other Republicans would continue to investigate the origins of Mueller’s investigation.

“He is handling himself exactly the way the American people want their attorney general to operate,” Jordan said. “I think what’s most important now, lots of people Mark and I talk to, they want us to get to the bottom of this.”

Barr has been criticized by Democrats over his handling of the 448-page report’s release. Democrats criticized the fact that he held a 9:30 a.m. press conference on Thursday prior to the release of the document.

Meadows highlighted that the results of the report were positive, but he said there would continue to be an effort from him and other Republicans to investigate the genesis of the investigation into Trump. He emphasized that “what most Americans want is to make sure that this does not happen again.”

“It is a good day for America. It is a good day for the president,” Meadows said, later explaining that he would continue to push to find out more about how the investigation began in the first place.

When Mueller’s report was finally released at 11 a.m., it showed that his investigation found that Trump did not conspire with Russia during the 2016 presidential election, but made no determination on whether the president obstructed justice, although Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein cleared Trump of those claims in a four-page summary to Congress last month.
