Decision on 75 fired DCPS teachers delayed

City officials won’t decide the fate of 75 teachers fired from D.C. Public Schools — then reinstated — just yet.

A lawyer with the D.C. Public Employee Relations Board said the executive meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed, likely to Thursday.

The board is reviewing an appeal from D.C. Public Schools, which is fighting an arbitrator’s ruling that the school system improperly fired 75 first- and second-year teachers by relying on negative recommendations from principals, but never telling the teachers the charges against them or giving them a chance to refute them.

DCPS recently reinstated two blind teachers, one whom an arbitrator ruled had been wrongfully terminated, and another whose case was coming to arbitration.
