NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s family is finally beginning their move to Gracie Mansion.
The official mayor’s residence has been empty for more than a decade.
De Blasio’s predecessor, Michael Bloomberg, chose to remain in his Upper East Side townhouses.
De Blasio, a Democrat elected in November, debated for weeks about whether to move out of his family’s longtime home in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
The family eventually decided to relocate but then delayed the start of the actual move. It began Monday and will continue through September.
The announcement that the move has begun was made on First Lady Chirlane McCray’s blog.
The website DNAInfo.com reported that the First Family left some unwanted free items on the curb outside their home on Saturday.
