Carville: Trump fans hate the GOP establishment

The big difference between supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and supporters of Donald Trump is that the senator’s fans don’t hate their party, Democratic strategist James Carville said Monday.

In fact, he added, Sanders’ fans have a lot in common with supporters of former secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Fans of both Sanders and Clinton are pretty much the same in that they support the Democratic Party, and have common ground when it comes to the two candidates’ different platforms, he said.

Trump’s fans, however, hate their party, Carville added. Trump fans hate Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., they hate House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and they hate the Republican “establishment,” he said.

“Look, the difference is that the people who are voting for Bernie Sanders, actually most of them really like Hillary Clinton and the people that are voting for Hillary Clinton a lot of them like Bernie Sanders,” he said Monday on MSNBC.

“The people voting for Donald Trump do not like the Republican party. They do not like John Boehner and Mitch McConnell and they don’t like the other establishment Republicans,” he added.

Carvilled continued, saying, “what is going on the Republican side is a little different than what is going the Democratic side.”

Carville is a longtime ally to the Clinton family.
