Former U.S. attorney Preet Bharara said he believes President Trump would have asked him to do “something inappropriate” had he not been fired.
Bharara described multiple odd encounters he had with Trump, saying they were so unusual that at one point he considered recording one of their impending conservations but never ended up doing so, the former federal prosecutor from Manhattan said in his new weekly podcast, USA Today reported on Wednesday.
Bharara said in his podcast that he repeatedly told Justice Department officials of the innapropriate nature of the presidents direct phone calls to him.
“Had I not been fired, and had Donald Trump continued to cultivate a direct personal relationship with me, its my strong belief, that at some point, given the history, the president of the United States would have asked me to do something inappropriate, and I would have resigned them, Bharara said.
He added: “I don’t know that for a fact. But that’s my strong belief.”
Bharara was fired in March by Trump along with 46 other U.S. attorneys and has been a constant critic of the president ever since.
