WORK ZONE: Steer clear of Little River Turnpike this weekend

Weekend drivers are urged to stay clear of the Little River Turnpike and the Capital Beltway near Annandale this weekend.

Starting at 11 p.m. Friday, the westbound exit ramp of Little River Turnpike (Route 236) onto the Interstate 495 Beltway will be closed as workers add a new water line as part of the project to build High Occupancy Toll lanes on the Beltway. The roadway is slated to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

During the work, drivers can expect back ups as they near the Beltway interchange, unless bad weather delays the work. Virginia officials recommend the following detour:

  • Continue west on Little River Turnpike, over I-495.
  • Take the exit ramp onto I-495 south
  • Stay to the right and follow the ramp around onto Little River Turnpike east back over I-495
  • Exit onto I-495 north.
