Texas abortion clinics back to scheduling patients

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Abortion clinics in Texas are starting to reopen after the U.S. Supreme Court blocked new restrictions that had closed all but eight facilities.

But some abortion providers said Wednesday that their clinics are not business as usual despite celebrating the decision. At the Routh Street Women’s Clinic in Dallas, director Ginny Braun says more than half her staff has left since abortions there were outlawed earlier this month.

Owners of a McAllen clinic that had been the only abortion provider within 300 miles for women in the Rio Grande Valley had yet to announce its plans.

The ruling stopped an Oct. 2 decision from the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals that Texas could enforce a law requiring abortion clinics to meet hospital-level operating standards.
