A Capitol Heights woman was charged Thursday with drowning her 4-year-old son in a bathtub, taking time to try to hide evidence before calling police for help, court documents said.
When Prince George’s County police first interviewed Neesie Thomas, 24, after her son Egypt Hussan Thomas was found submerged in a bathtub on March 24 in her Walker Mill Road apartment, she told them she did not know how he got there, according to court documents.
Police sent the boy’s body to the medical examiner, labeling it a suspicious death.
On April 16, Thomas met with police again, telling them that she knocked her son into the bathtub and was unable to rescue him, despite several attempts, according to court documents. Minutes later she was able to pull him from the water and put him on the floor, she told police.
Then, Thomas went back to the bathtub and fixed the shower curtain that had been pulled down by the her son. She undressed the limp body and replaced it in the tub in an effort to avoid any suspicion, Thomas told police.
Thomas then went to a neighbor’s apartment to get help.
On April 22, the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide by drowning and Thomas was indicted on first-degree murder and child abuse charges this week. She is being held without bond.
A police spokesman said detectives are still trying to determine a motive and are asking anyone with information to call the Prince George’s County Police Department‘s Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925.
