Woman killed in Lanham crash

A woman was killed in a two-car crash in Lanham after the driver of the vehicle she was in didn’t stop at a flashing red light.

The accident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Forbes Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Highway, said Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George’s County police spokesman.

He said a 25-year-old man was driving a sedan on Forbes Boulevard and didn’t stop at the intersection’s flashing red light, striking a van that was driving on Martin Luther King Jr. Highway.

The sedan’s driver was taken to a hospital and remains in serious condition. His passenger, a 29-year-old woman, died at the hospital at about 2:40 a.m., Johnson said. Her name was not released because her family had not yet been notified.

The driver of the van, a 41-year-old woman, refused medical treatment.

Johnson said charges are pending against the sedan driver. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, he said.
