Bo Jackson was an anonymous donor who covered the funeral expenses for the victims of the Uvalde school shooting in May, according to a new report.
The college football Hall of Famer donated a $170,000 check to ease the financial burden on the families that had to bury their children after a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers at the Texas school.

“I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting old. It’s just not right for parents to bury their kids. It’s just not right” Jackson said. “I know every family there probably works their butts off just to do what they do. … The last thing they needed was to shell out thousands of dollars for something that never should have happened.”
A multisport superstar, Jackson played four seasons for the NFL’s Raiders and played eight seasons in the MLB. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1985 and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1990.
Jackson traveled to Uvalde and gave the check to Gov. Greg Abbott days after the shooting.
“Uvalde is a town that sticks in your mind. Just the name,” Jackson said. “I don’t know a soul there. It just touched me.”
The governor announced the anonymous donation at a press conference on May 27.
“We appreciate that anonymous donor for his generosity, and we will ensure that those resources get into the right hands to make sure that no family who is suffering from incalculable heartbreak at this time will have to worry about a single cost with regard to anything concerning this travesty,” Abbott said.
