Maryland’s Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps ranked 42nd on a list of the top 100 most influential people in sports recently compiled by BusinessWeek.
The magazine said Phelps’ eight gold medals in the Beijing Olympics, “are guaranteed to make him this season’s most sought-after sports celeb by advertisers.”
Kevin Plank, founder of Baltimore-based Under Armour, ranked 95th on the list. The magazine noted that, “The firm has grown beyond its sweat-absorbing shirts and shorts.”
