Trump mulls exit from Paris climate deal

President Trump is mulling whether to exit from the Paris climate change agreement, although he said it isn’t a fair deal for the United States.

“It’s not a fair situation because they are paying virtually nothing and we are paying massive amounts of money,” Trump told Reuters in an interview.

The Paris deal’s inclusion of a Green Climate Fund, which directs countries to pay hundreds of millions of dollars each year, is the major sticking point for Trump. The fund is meant to support small, developing countries cope with changes resulting from climate change, such as sea-level rise.

Trump is doubtful that countries like China, India and Russia are not being held to the same standard as the U.S. in its contributions.

The president said he will make a decision on whether to exit or not from the agreement in the next two weeks. But Trump would not say what his decision will be. “I can say this, we want to be treated fairly,” he said.
