Wrongly accused Parkland school shooting suspect sues conspiracy theorist Alex Jones

A man who was wrongly accused by Alex Jones of being a suspect in the Majory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting is suing the conspiracy theorist and his website InfoWars.

Marcel Fontaine filed a defamation lawsuit in Travis County, Texas, Monday against InfoWars owner Alex Jones, InfoWars employee Kit Daniels, Infowars LLC, and Free Speech Systems LLC.

The suit claims an article on the InfoWars website that reportedly included a photo of Fontaine “irreparably tainted” his image by naming him as the suspected in the Parkland, Fla., school shooting.

The lawsuit said Fontaine has been consistently harassed by InfoWars readers since the piece was published.

“Mr. Fontaine resides in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and has never traveled to Florida. He is an ordinary young man with no connection to these events,” the lawsuit said. “The articles were manifestly false and have caused him enormous injury and continuing personal harassment.”

The lawsuit alleged that “hundreds of millions” of people read the piece after a Republican state lawmaker in North Carolina posted it.

Jones is widely known for his controversial conspiracy theories, including his allegations that the Sandy Hook massacre never occurred and that 9/11 was an “inside job,” both of which were referenced in the lawsuit against him.
