Oklahoma House passes bill that would rename state highway after Trump

A bill that would rename a highway after former President Donald Trump has passed through the Oklahoma House.

House Republicans added a provision in an omnibus bridge and highway naming bill that would label a 20-mile stretch of U.S. 287 in the Oklahoma Panhandle as “President Donald J. Trump Highway,” according to The Oklahoman.

Republicans plan to pay for the new signage themselves and overruled Democrats who attempted to take Trump’s name out of the package before it was passed.

Conservative lawmakers made a similar push to name a highway after Trump in 2019, but the plan stalled over concerns about politicizing the highway and naming it after a president still in office.

In Ohio, Republicans are moving forward with a plan to name a state park after the 45th president.

Meanwhile, Democrats across the country have been attempting to remove Trump’s name from signs and monuments, including in New York, where an effort is underway to take his name off a state park.
