Stanford University has kicked out a man in his 20s who was living on the school grounds for almost a year by passing as a student.
William Curry, an Alabama native and 2021 high school graduate, had pretended to be a student at the school since at least December of last year, living in multiple dorms across campus, according to university communications. The school had already removed him multiple times, but he kept returning to campus, with the university failing to tell its staff or students about the situation, according to the Stanford Daily, the university’s newspaper.
“It seemed that he was a friend of the football players,” student Kacey Logan told the outlet. “So, anytime we saw him we let him in because it was like he knew people.”

On Oct. 27, Curry was seen taking a television from a dorm and given an order to stay away, according to messages resident assistants wrote to the dorm’s Slack.
Curry lived in at least five student residences and harassed multiple students during his time living on campus, according to the outlet. Whenever he was removed from the campus, he would immediately return and live in the dorm building next to the one he had previously been kicked out of, several university faculty told the outlet.
“The unique aspects of Mr. Curry’s persistence and ability to integrate himself with our student community has made it clear that gaps exist in those protocols,” said spokeswoman Dee Mostofi, according to the New York Post. “We will immediately undertake a review to ensure our procedures do not allow for this type of incident to happen again.”
