Everyone watching Kyle Rittenhouse’s homicide trial heard a patriotic tune come from Judge Bruce Schroeder’s phone on Wednesday.
The call interrupted Rittenhouse’s lawyer as he was speaking on his client’s behalf. The ring tone? Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.”
Schroeder, who appeared to be annoyed by the interruption, dismissed the call almost as soon as it went off.

RITTENHOUSE TRIAL: WAS IT SELF-DEFENSE?
The trial then resumed.
Greenwood, an award-winning country artist, performed at inaugural events for former President Donald Trump and other Republican presidents, and “God Bless the U.S.A.” has blared over the speakers at Trump rallies.
Rittenhouse, 18, is accused of fatally shooting two people and injuring a third during a night of violent clashes in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020. Rittenhouse, who claims he was defending himself, has pleaded not guilty to seven charges, including two counts of homicide, one count of attempted homicide, and two counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

At another point during the trial on Wednesday, Rittenhouse sobbed after he took the stand to be questioned by his defense team.
Gaige Grosskreutz, a protester and volunteer medic wounded on the streets of Kenosha by Rittenhouse, testified Monday he was pointing his own gun at Rittenhouse before the teenager fired his rifle at him.
