NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — More than 40 musical acts and about 10,000 fans a day are expected as the Newport Folk Festival returns to Rhode Island.
The music starts Friday with a kick-off concert featuring Wilco.
Tickets to Saturday and Sunday’s performances sold out three months in advance — the earliest tickets have sold out since the festival began in 1959.
This year’s line-up includes Arlo Guthrie, My Morning Jacket, Jackson Browne and Patty Griffin.
Festival creator George Wein says the festival stays strong by attracting a diverse lineup of artists, including veteran musicians and up-and-comers looking for their big break.
