Law enforcement in New Hampshire are investigating a threatening letter sent to supporters of President Trump in the towns of Milford and Brookline.
The letter threatened to burn down the homes of Trump supporters if the president fails to leave the Oval Office if he loses the 2020 election.
“Dear neighbor,” the letter read. “You have been identified by our group as being a Trump supporter. Your address has been added to our database as a target when we attack should Trump not concede the election.”
A representative with the Milford Police Department told local ABC affiliate WMUR 9 the department contacted the state attorney general’s office after several homes in the area received the threatening letter.
Two additional people received the letter in the neighboring town of Brookline. Police Chief Bill Quigley said he was “shocked” anyone in the community would make “that type of threat.” Quigley said he alerted the United States Postal Inspection Service to the letter, noting it could be a federal crime.
“It’s on a felony level because of the threat of burning homes down and causing injury, but it could also be with the postal inspectors, something on the federal level,” Quigley said.
Threats of violence are on the rise throughout the U.S. ahead of a contentious presidential election between Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, were the target of threats made by James Dale Reed, who was arrested on Oct. 17 after he allegedly left a threatening, handwritten note at a Maryland home with Biden signs in the yard.
“We are the ones with these scary guns, we are the ones your children have nightmares about,” Reed’s letter stated.
